That's some math, that new math. Doubling a value means after one and a half doubling periods it's worth a quarter less than what it was worth at half the doubling period.
I'll stick to the old ways, thanks. At least simple monotonic increasing functions did not tend to decrease over time.

Human brain is supposed to be in the range of 100 trillion calculations per second, a bit more then your 66 Mhz.
Half of what you learn in school is already worthless. It has nothing to do with technology and more to do with keeping you around longer. The valuable stuff you learn in, say, CompSci is not programming (which you should already know before you start), but general design methods, algorithms (theory and nomenclature), and math. All of these things won't be outdated before you die.
Some of these are a bit oversimplified and give the wrong impression. For example:

I believe they did their calculation based on population. If i form my own country of 2 people, get a single cable connection, route it, bam! I have 100% broadband penetration. They need to factor in population differences into their penetration figures.

I saw a presentation like this (in fact, most of it was the same, but it was a PowerPoint, so it wasn't nearly as cool) a couple years ago. I'm quite excited to see how the future will turn out.
Their claim actually sounds reasonable. Just 1 semester of outdated info by your 3rd year doesn't sound like BS. I mean, in the fields of CS, biomedical engineering, metallurgical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, etc. there are more and more breakthroughs made each year, which will no doubt replace some course taken in a previous year.

The crazy fact that blew my mind was something to the effect that this year number of searches on the internet for porn has for the first time been surpassed by searches for people on social networking sites. I'd track down the news article I read to support that claim but I'd perfer to avoid doing searches from work that include the word "porn".

I think it means that decentralized philosophies will be the only philosophies to survive the singularity. Any entities that attempt to control the economies of the world will become increasingly irrelevant, as control becomes more and more obviously impossible. And yes, those entities will primarily be governments.
Language is not the barrier it used to be. Communication is incredibly widespread. Global communities *have formed and will continue to form*, and individuals will move too quickly for their governments to be able to keep up. It's a multi-agent system, where the feedback loops are getting tighter and tighter.
Look at the vast numbers of normal, every day people who pirate media. This is technically a federal crime, yet large portions of our population are engaging in it. I suspect most of them know that it is illegal, and do it anyway, in complete defiance of the law. It used to be that the most an average person ever broke the law was speeding and stretching the truth on their tax forms. The fact that "the government says so" is no longer relevant.
Governments will have to adapt by returning to their original purpose: providing arbitration between entities during disputes. I don't think we'll really need to worry about wars, unless we continue to try to "save" other countries from their despotic leaders. How can we go to war with, say, China, if so many people rely on the trade we engage in with them? Too many people will be interconnected in the global market to allow their governments to wage war with each other.
