I've been teaching myself flash (Actionscript 3.0) for the past month or so, and it turns out Ive been working on some sort of game as a learning project. I don't really know where to take it from here, and I figured I'd throw it up online for you guys to see before I forget about it. You'll need the latest Flash player. Controls: Arrow Keys to move Mouse to point and shoot Space to pause and unpause (it starts paused), change volume and switch weapons (bow or nades) Probably my favoritest thing about it is that baddies, arrows, and blood never disappear, and there is no limit, and it has no effect on frame rate. Play it Here If you try it, please let me know if it worked at all, what kind of FPS you got, and how much you hated it from 1 to 10.

My suggestions [smile]:
  • Write the word PAUSED on the screen when the game is paused. It's late, and I was about to give up on trying to figure out how to play the game before I understood that the game is in a paused state.

  • Label the sound control.

  • Place instructions on the paused screen so the user knows what keys do what.

  • Add a keyboard key for shooting. Having to use the mouse was really "irritating" for me. I would suggest spacebar for fire and P or return for Pause.

  • W and D worked for up and right, but A and S do not move the character

  • Add a status text for the weapon to know if you are switching from bow and arrow to the mine bomb thing

I got about 120fps. Cute game but you might want to limit the mine thing to prevent spamming and blanketing the entire map with em [lol]. Also the arrows seems a bit underpowered compared to the other weapon. Aside from that nice work, with a bit more polish and game improvements, I'm sure you can make an addicting flash game!

Shouldn't a Flash game normally run at a fixed FPS that you set?

I must have a crappy system. :[ Between 60 and 70 fps in Opera, Vista Aerio(or whatever), etc. Not a high-end machine.

As for Drew_Benton's suggestion of a keyboard firebutton instead of using the mouse, I'm not sure how'd that work since the mouse is used for aiming... o_O
Anywho, I don't think the mouse problem would be quite as big if WASD was implemented.

It was pretty decent. Need some sort of limiting and collecting of the mines and arrows. Bigger maps. The player needs to take damage from the mines. Maybe give the baddies some arrows. Oooh! And their own supply depot that you need to take over. And maybe alter the map with the mines. I like that they bounce off of the walls, but when the explode, take a chunk out with them. And maybe its just playing Oblivion too much, but the baddies just kind of stand there when they get hit with an arrow instead of coming to look for me.

The only 'bug' I saw was that when I was mass firing and/or spamming the mines, occasionaly one would pop out that already had the 'explosion' sprite with it.
