Do you know if python can be ported to a PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox360, Wii, PSP, etc easily? One of the things that preocupy me is the fact that python statically-linked occupies a lot of data(like 2Mb using VS2005)! And also I think the garbage collector can take lots of RAM or to consume too much processing time. [Edited by - bubububu on October 30, 2008 2:02:26 AM]

Easily? I have no clue to be honest, but python has already been ported to the psp.

EDIT: after a quick google, I found that python 2.1 was ported to the GC and PS2 as well linky I'm sure it's been ported to other consoles.

Modern consoles have more than enough CPU/memory for any scripting languages, this includes the handhelds.

Lua only takes up like 100-200 KB memory footprint for its interpreter in memory, and has been used in embedded devices. So it's more than capable of being run on a console.

Python last I checked was written in C, so it's fully compatible with any console. I'm sure many games have shipped with some sort of embedded Python support.

As for speed, checkout the Language Shootout (http://shootout.alioth.debian.org/)

Most non-jit compiled scripting languages are about 50x slower than C++. Jit compiled scripting languages are about 5x slower, from my observations.

Good Luck!
