Brief description: Experienced professional programmer (me) seeks collaboration opportunities with a 3D modeler or modelers, and/or coders as well. This will be a futuristic turn-based strategy game played between any two people over the internet using client software which you develop, connecting through server software which I develop. Target aim: The aim is for people to play free online, and hopefully generate a large enough critical mass of users so that money can be generated from the website through other means (advertisement or whatever). Bottom line - there is absolutely no guarantee of any profits, just the idea and hope that if we make something good enough, something good can come of it. Compensation: No compensation. You do this as a hobby (as I am doing). However, you will get a piece of whatever it is we develop, and if that ends up being something that can generate revenue, GREAT! Technology: Client-side software will target Windows/PC. You can optionally develop other clients as well, or develop the client to work on multiple architectures and systems, as long as the "prime directive" of Windows/PC is met. What is needed is: 1) 3D models/meshes, terrain, etc. 2) A 3D engine (Blender GE, Panda3D, whatever) for display 3) The ability to manipulate the screen with point and click of the mouse, and keyboard input. In other words, a GUI. 4) The ability of the game client to connect to the server (my side), send information to the server, and receive commands from the server. I could try to help with this aspect if necessary. I don't care what you want to use as a graphics engine, or what tools and languages you want to use, but if you decide on something like Blender or Panda3D it would probably be helpful to know Python. Note that as far as 3D graphics go, this is "fairly simple" stuff. In other words, the graphics don't need to be real-time, there isn't much in the way of animation and what not. The game scenes will be fairly "static" between player moves. You get the coordinates on where to place game pieces from the server, so the client will be responsible for minimal calculation. Talent needed: One or more people who can do 3D modeling, and/or coding of a networked game client. Would need to be able to code to, or code using, a game engine like Panda3D or Blender GE (or whatever - you decide). Optionally, you could write or use your own engine for all I care. Team structure: I am the only person on the team so far. I will code up the server side, plus try to help with anything on the client if necessary, but I would prefer my involvement there to be minimal and limited in scope. The team structure is essentially that everyone is an "equal," with the caveat that I am the main arbiter for deciding on what constitutes "the game" we are coding (which has already been largely ironed out). You will have extreme latitude for how you code the client and graphics, what tools you use, and most of the design and creative aspects of it. I am largely a "hands off" guy, I am not a micromanager. I'm easy-going and laid back. Contacts: gamedev_x@yahoo.com Previous Work by Team: Years of professional, paid corporate experience (IBM, etc). One online multiplayer card game (client and server). Additional Info: This is not a requirement, but it would probably be helpful if you have an interest in RTS (real-time strategy) and TBS (turn-based strategy) games. Feedback: ENCOURAGING ONLY
