Alright, for some reason I'm running into a wall when I bring up dancing during conversations with (male) friends. The topic is nice when you're with female friends, because almost all the girls love to dance, but for some reason, guys seem to hate it. I've danced 6 years of Ballroom / Latin(Also know as international standard / latin) and I'm currently dancing Salsa. When I bring up the topic of dancing, and the idea of going to a salsa party(Which is a nice social location to meet new people aswell) they all bail out. One friend always goes like "But I can't dance", which is a good excuse, but one of the friends I know DOES know how to dance, but just bails with the excuse "I'm a bit rusty, and I think I prefer to go to bed early". WTF? So, what about the guys on gdnet? Do you dance? And what? Or, if you don't dance, why not? Toolmaker
I dance with Death and flirt with Danger.
This is my curse.
No I'm not inviting Death nor Danger to your Salsa party. But I hear War and Pestilence do a mean two-step. Famine has cronic fatigue syndrome, so he struggles to leave the house.

I haven't danced since this one party when I cut loose.
Unfortunately, I was like the male equivalent of Elaine on Seinfeld, and while it was funny, it's only funny a while before it's just sad. :P

dancing is great.. but i'm still sorta shy about it. i love to do it in clubs, to techno or trance.. it really frees. no need to get drugs. i'm a pc gui, moving my body just feels like drugs :)
but i've never learned or done yet some "ordered" dance.

I hate dancing, unless I do so when intoxicated on alcohol in a dark club.
You won't find me taking part in Scottish country dancing, for instance. I don't enjoy it one iota.

I've been dancing Salsa for the past year when I started taking lessons. for the past 6 months I would go almost every weekend to a latin club. I loved it. I also picked up a little Merengue and Bachata in the club and from other people teaching me a little here and there.
I wanted to learn hip-hop/rave stuff but I can't find a good teacher and I just feel awkward learning from videos. I'll get there though.
Dancing is tons of fun though, and a great workout. Not to mention other reasons*cough*.

There was no guy who had seen me dancing with beautiful girls (and I'm not Fred Astaire) who hadn't said to me "I wish I could dance like that". I usually reply: "you need to take classes and practice a lot, that's what I did".
Dancing would be my 2nd favourite male-female activity, I truthfully enjoy it.

i'd like to do some of the pair-dances (latin stuff and such). i like the girls as well as their style. not that it matters anymore as i have a girlfriend.. :)
my main problem is, i hate the music. it's really not my style of music, non of the pair-dances have music i like. i don't like the latin stuff, nor the hiphop stuff, nor the folklore stuff, nor the classic stuff (the classic stuff for dancing at least.. ordinary classic i like).
in the electronical scene which i love, as well as the rock scene which i like, there's just no pair-dancing.
rock'n'roll would be the only thing.. but there i don't like the style of the girls (and boys) that much :)
damn i'm complicated.. :)

I would absolutely love to, but I have never been trained in any way, and am a bit shy about partaking in group activities that I'm so utterly inept at [and it's not something I can practice privately, and at least get past the 'pathetic' stage of learning something new]. I would enjoy it, and really I figure if I practiced at it, that I would be pretty good at it [I am quite physically coordinated at other things that require some grace and precision]. As a result, I never really get around to doing it. I would need somebody who was really good at it who I trusted, to sort of pull me through a bit of the beginning stage. Just hasn't happened.
I know how to wiggle a bit... so if that counts as dancing.
I came really close to taking dance lessons once, but it was just my attempt at trying to pick up this one girl.
I honestly just don't really have much of an interest in dancing, I mean when I think about it I think it would be pretty fun to be good and to bust out some moves at either a party or a club. Then the factor of finding a decent dance teacher, the cost, and time constraints.
Maybe one day...

I like to dance, but my version of 'dance' is to fake the funk and pretend that I know what I'm doing. I just go with the music and do what feels best...I probably look like a retarded guy with uncoordinated arms and legs, each with a mind of its own. Initially my self-consciousness acts as an inhibitor, but either alcohol or just getting out there minimizes it enough. Your friends probably face the same inhibitions?
I've never taken dance lessons and I don't see myself taking them in the foreseeable future. I'm guessing that the regimented coordination of dance is much like marching in the military? Just a bit of a different mentality though... :)

">"Wiggle it, just a little bit"
Your response def took me back to the 90s for just a minute. :)
Actually on topic... I enjoy dancing like a less structured
club kind of dancing, but I'm not particularly a fan of the
more organized forms of dancing.
I think something like swing would be fun though so I'd be
open to it.
I just started taking dancing lessons. So far I've mostly only done rhumba and only new a few basics but I have a great time nonetheless. I got started because my girlfriend is a dancer and she asked me to go one day.
I don't dance. Period. I just feel awkward. My friends even took me to Studio 600 (a club in Salt Lake City) and I can honestly say I was there for over an hour and didn't dance once. I'd like to dance, or learn to, but I feel too awkward.
