All, I've found a great tile map editor today and I just wanted to share it with you: TME - Tile Map Editor. It seems to be recently updated, is freeware, and has an XML export function. If you're about to write your own tile editor I strongly advise you to STOP, download TME, and give it a try. Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with TME and have no contact with the author. I just think this is a great tool and want to encourage the author to keep it going by getting him some more attention.
