This poll was brought to you by Gaiiden: Q: How do you like your weekly dose of Journal Land via the Weekend Reading feature?
So there seems to be a tad bit of confusion as to what Weekend Reading is. Every Friday I go through all the GDNet Journals from the previous Friday to the current Thursday (12am EST) and list the ones that have updates worth reading - be that projects with cool new images, code that people have shared, articles and thoughts on game development, etc. It gets posted to the main page news section every Friday.
Yea uhm, that kinda defeats the purpose of visiting some of the blogs, and if I included pictures it would just lengthen the feature and make it harder to pick out the blog descriptions. So, no pictures.
You're asking the wrong guy for that. I include every technical entry I find for sure - if there happen to not be a lot some weeks it's because people didn't make a lot of technical journal entries. I'm just doing the reporting here.
Well for one thing that would kind of destroy the whole "Tales from Journal Land" part of the Weekend Reading feature. However when our new blog system is launched with the next site version, it will support external blogs and this Weekend Reading feature is actually just a placeholder for that blog system, when the community (as in, all of you) will be able to rate blog entries and blogs themselves so that you can all compile your own favorite blog lists or just swing by and see what's "hot" and not have to rely on me anymore to tell you.

Oooh, interesting. Is this blog system intended for industry wide blogs, or just GameDev members?

French blogs only. [grin]
Lies!!1! You're just making up these results!
You won't get away with this. I'm not sure what your hidden agenda is; but I think it's time GameDev starts a thorough background check on you and find out what your real intentions are.
(yeah, I know)

Yea, I've hinted at it in the past here and there. It will no doubt roll out only for member blogs and blogs that we've added - but soon after it'll be open for anyone to link blogs to - whether it's their blog or the RSS feed of another blog they find interesting. I don't really wanna discuss more yet - that's just the general idea.

Rats, and here I was hoping that including a 38% result for non-readership would be enough mis-direction! Curses!

The only thing I'd like to see with the tales from journal land changed is on the day it's posted have the long description so I don't have to hit read more to see more than the featured blogs
'Fraid you'll have to deal with the extra click. There's no way I'm filling the main page with all that stuff. The Dailies are bad enough at pushing down other news items. You could just follow me on twitter - I always post a direct link.

Thanks for never doing a poll about the Daily so I could find out if people liked it. >:|
Well, the daily has bumped gamedev.net up from being something I'd visit once in a blue moon, to one the few pages I check daily... Granted, I'd rather have an even more technical daily, but as it is it gives us/me an updated view on what is happening in the industry, so I like that as well!
Keep up the good work!

I'd like the weekend reading entries to be categorized in some better way - not just staff/projects/stuff, but something more akin to the forum categories. One then could pick what interests him without wading through all the text.
A good compromise would be to organize them by topic and show the GDNet icon, if they're from the staff.

I dunno about this idea. The only category that could be narrowed down is Project Updates. All the rest usually only have a handful of entries and there's no point in narrowing them down further so that I'm assigning 1-2 entries to a single topic.
