Greetings, I recently tried gDEBugger and found it to be a very, very nice tool to help track down inefficiencies in my OpenGL program. The problem is, it's only a 7 day trial and the full version is not cheap at all. I was wondering if there were any open-source equivalents to this as my tinkering in OpenGL does not justify the costs. Secondly, I'm not always certain as how to use some of the statistics that I get back from gDEBugger. So far I've tracked down and removed some redundant calls, which are obvious improvements, but others aren't so clear. Specifically, which functions are more important to reduce the number of calls to than others. Unforetunately, gDEBugger doesn't give any sort of metric as to which calls are more expensive. Does anyone have a resource that could point me in the right direction here? Thanks.

There's BuGLe which started out as Linux only but supposedly now includes some Windows support - I've only used the Linux version so can't vouch for how well it works on Windows.

The best free tool in my opinion is GLSL Devil.

Apart from that, there's a few other projects like GlIntercept or BuGLe, but I don't really like them. They're a bit complicated to set up, whereas GLSL Devil is a "press the button" debugger.
