[web] Making a GUI with JavaScript?

AJAX is just one part of javascript (the part where you update the page by asking the server for more data instead of asking for a new page). It's supported by most popular javascript frameworks (what they actually do is make it somewhat less cumbersome to write AJAX request than if you were to write them in plain javascript, you don't actually need a JS framework to use AJAX), but that doesn't mean you have to use it. Regardless, there's nothing to install, apart from whatever software you are using to write web pages. Just download the relevant script and include it in the page. <br><br>Most frameworks have some widgets (MooTools has a slider, for instance), so apart from the Google Web Toolkit you might also just want to look at the Yahoo User Interface Library and similar frameworks. I personally find javascript difficult to learn because good documentation seems to be hard to come by (maybe I just don't know where to look) and learning by looking at other people's code only gets you so far. If you can get your hands on a good book on the subject, you'll likely be all set though.
My team has been working on developing exactly the same thing for a few months now.

Ext is also pretty good for this kind of stuff.
