Hey guys so I downgraded my Vista laptop to XP and I have an issue. It was working fine but now when I shut down and try to reboot, the computer freezes after the Windows Screen. I get the screen that says windows xp with the loading bar, after that its just black and does nothing. It dont think it was happening when I restarted, only after a shut down. The only way I got it to work was by booting from the windows CD, and choosing repair a windows installation on the menu screen, it then rebooted and actually worked. Anyone know what the problem could be?

my one-fits-all-suggestion for people like you: reinstall vista again and get used to it. it works great normally, and if it doesn't, find out how to fix your problems.
If that's not the help you're after then you're going to have to explain the problem better than what you have. - joanusdmentia

As daveper said, trying to run an OS on a machine that wasn't designed with that OS in mind can be a painful experience, XP however is supported by most hardware once you install the appropriate drivers. (If you let us know what laptop you have I'm sure someone will be able to give you a proper solution)

I tried the same thing on an HP laptop that wasn't supposed to support XP. It caused me nothing but headaches - driver issues, random freezes and crashes, etc. I gave up and switched back to Vista. A desktop is a different story - you can easily set up any OS you want in that environment. But when you're constrained to a system created by a particular vendor w/ particular specifications, it can be a nightmare.
