So I bought two Annoy-a-trons...

So, how did this turn out?
Pretty disappointing actually. We just moved out of the dorms today. The only reaction I got out of him was the one I posted above (where he asked his girlfriend what that beeping sound was one time). I never heard him mention it again. Here's what I think may have gone wrong:
1) Those things just aren't loud enough to compete with his speakers when he is playing music. Since he usually plays his music all day, he probably didn't hear them most of the time.
2) The high-pitched beep is painfully annoying, but not that loud. I think the lower pitched sound is much easier to hear, so maybe it would've been more effective (especially when he turns his music off to go to sleep) to have used the lower pitched tone.
3) Maybe the Annoy-a-tron 2.0 would've been more effective. I don't know, but it's a possibility.
4) Perhaps he just got used to them. I didn't have to live with them so I don't know how easy it is to starting getting used to the beeps and ignoring them. Maybe I should've attacked in bursts rather than leaving them on for a few weeks straight.
Hopefully this'll help all you geeks better annoy your friends/enemies when you're geeking out.

Probably he got somewhat deaf for listening music that loud.
Now you know the meaning of the saying "Know your enemy".

[size="2"]I like the Walrus best.
Someone tried to use an Annoy-a-tron on me a few years ago at work, and it didn't work very well against me. You tend to zone it out very easily if you're focused on something else, and unless you're consciously trying to listen for it every few minutes, it's not that annoying. A shorter delay between beeps probably would have worked better. As it is those things are fairly easy to locate by hearing alone, so the best place to put it is one that's a plausible source for beeps for most people (such as a computer tower) but difficult to get to unless you know where to look (such as inside the front panel of a computer tower [grin]). That way, they just think there's something wrong with their computer and if you're the one they go to for help, more hilarity can ensue.

surely turning the computer off would quickly solve that mystery unless they are completely thick.

I'm a college student living in the dorms. I've got a room to myself, though I share a bathroom with a suitemate. He's cool; we get along, but... he drives me insane! His sound system (especially his bass) easily carries right through the walls. During the day I don't really care if I hear his music, but when it's 12:30 a.m. and my walls are shaking when I'm trying to sleep I get annoyed. Really annoyed. Just to give you an idea of how loud the music/bass is, the girl who lives right below him repeatedly has the light in her ceiling rattle so much that it falls out. Now he is nice enough to turn it down when I ask him, but really, I shouldn't have to ask every night. I mean, it's just common courtesy to let people sleep at night.
I doubt that your annoyatron will help in such case, especially if he will find your devices before you, replace batteries and mount it in your room.Or will buy the same.

Let's suppose that he also will buy such "trons".I see this guy has a nice low-frequency sound speakers, and try to guess your next steep in this "armament race": it might be the parallel connection of 7.0 Hz sinus generator to sound input of his music center...This is so-called "the voice of sea",it happens sometimes in Bermuda triangle. In the next morning you will enter to his room and will see only a cup with hot coffee and nothing more, like on Maria Celesta board [smile]

It was a joke of couse, never do it.And remove all that things back until not too late.

Ummm... I don't know what that means... If you mean something like this, then yes.

I mean the infra-sound waves which coincide with "alpha"-rhythm of human's brain... (of "theta",I don't remember exactly)
It causes a sense of fear and sometimes can stop a heart...I don't know about 12kHz influence to human, but why 12kHZ? Is this a kind of limit? No.People can hear higher frequency. What is this? You must ask such questions youself before use something against another people- or prepare to prove in the court that 12kHz is safely for human health.
