Ive just installed a fresh copy of visual studio 2008 on a laptop running vista. For some reason when I try to run a Win32 Console application (I havent checked any other type of application) I get the following error ONLY in debug: Unable To Start Program "C\...debug\helloworld.exe" The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Review the manifest for possible errors. Reinstalling the applicaiton may fix this problem. For more details, please see the application event log. Any ideas anyone? Ive done a bit of googling but couldnt come up with anything solid. Cheers guys Ash.

That's weird. Do you actually have a directory called "...debug"?

Your path maybe set up incorrectly (did you reboot after the fresh installation?).

I had the same problem when I installed the x64 compiler of VS but did not reboot. I couldn't start an x64 program linked against the debug runtimes until a actually did a reboot.

Hi,

Did you compile your helloworld.exe in VS2005?

Make sure you got the correct DLL's on your Vista system.

The usual manifest and dll-reference hell got ya ;-)

if you do a clean compile on your Vista machine it should work though.
