A network middleware equivalent of Unity3D?

TCP/IP? HTTP? XML?
Flippant answers I know, but if you have those low-level building blocks then you can use pretty much any server you want. That's how the internet got so big. If on the other hand you're hoping for an API that is standard across all those languages, I doubt you'll be in any luck since the languages have very different optimal ways of handling network traffic.

Yes, HTTP is the lowest common denominator. The main drawback is that it doesn't easily allow server->client push without "long poll" type solutions -- there are other protocols for that case.
What kind of data do you want to communicate, how much, how often, between what kinds of nodes?

Hey d000hg,
there is Exit Games Photon, which covers most of these platforms (no JS currently, but AS3 is coming and we have objC). All communicate with a single server with UDP. The server's logic is mostly available as C# code to modify as needed.
Check it out for free at: photon.exitgames.com, but depending on your needs a fee will apply.
Cheers, Tobias

I will try to think a better way to phrase what I mean, it's proving difficult to find the right words!
The issue here is that you've fallen into the marketing trap of calling everything "a solution", in this case "networking middleware solution".
A solution is only a solution if it solves a problem.
What is your problem, exactly? :)

A packaged API that facilitates turn-based games may not be equally suitable for MMOs or for logging high-scores for single-player games. And a system that is versatile enough for all three is not likely to look much simpler than just doing it yourself. (eg. Raknet - you can do pretty much anything with Raknet but the code you write doesn't appear to be much shorter than going straight to the API in most cases.)
I've never used them but Dime Rocker posts a lot of stuff on the Unity3d forums about offering a single API for multiple web platforms (including facebook, myspace, iPhone etc.) I've never used them but it may be worth taking a look http://www.dimerocker.com/
We are nearing completion on our dimeRocker (alpha) deployment platform that will enable independent Unity developers to enrich their games with a growing selection of API designed to monetize their game across the social web.

Project Darkstar + Unity. Check out the info on the forums at http://www.projectdarkstar.com. Also, AS3, C++, C#, Java, etc. APIs available as well. Multiple platforms, one server. :)

I'm sorry -- could you explain to me where the project Darkstar javascript API is documented?<br>If you read the original question, that seems like an important part of the requirement. (I don't even understand where Unity comes in, because the question included ActionScript / Flash as a platform)
