I used to enjoy playing video games with friends on weekends when I'm tired and just want to be lazy. But thanks to these same friends I find myself disliking video games more and more over time. I've lost count of how many times a particular friend of mine has canceled plans with me so that he could play CoD:MW2. We're supposed to be getting a band going, but we've probably practiced twice in the past two months. Call of Duty is Halo all over again. Every time a new game comes out that everybody and their dog plays, it turns me off to that game more than anything. I'm not saying that Halo and CoD games are bad, but if I hear the words 'Call of Duty' or 'Modern Warfare' ever again, I think I might just vomit on that person on the spot. Does anyone else have the same problem?

Sorry, I'd make a longer reply, but my CoD game starts in 10 seconds. I'm almost to level 40!

If that can help you, yes, I did have. I started realizing that when our twice-a-year LANs became essentially filesharing meetings with more than 40% of the time spent in distributing and setting up. I was rather pissed off by their attitude and I started to not go to their LANs. After a while, I noticed they were really too much in gaming.

I seriously cannot understand how they can manage to keep this up. Besides the cost involved (both SW and HW) the time required to play their share of games is estimated to be massive, even assuming 25 hours/game. I simply don't have that time, but if I had, I surely won't burn it in gaming.

Damn, I'm pretty out-of-date in gaming in general. I'm not even sure I know what the game of the month is.

That's the funny thing about human nature. On one hand popular things (games/films/books/whatever) are attractive because lots of people like them, and on the other hand we all want to be individuals which means not following the crowd :)

As game developers or wanna-be game developers it is important to keep abreast of important games. It gives us a better understanding of the market and our customers. I mean fine if you don't like a game then don't play it, but don't discount it out of hand. The key is getting a balance. It only takes a few hours of play a week and you'll get a good feel for a game.

It wouldnt be so bad if the games were somehow original but its just the same tripe over and over.

When GTA4 came out my friend constantly pestered me to play GTA4 with him on 360, life about, on my HD monitor. I hated it, bored me to tears. Even still I was easily the better player.

Games are a break from socializing for me but I would never turn down an invitation irl to spend time playing computer games. Thats stupid.

In my experience, all the CoD games are virtually identical. They're being whored out every year now and because Treyarch now use IW's engine the gap has closed in terms of distinguishing look, feel and features. I played CoD2, WaW, and MW1 and 2 and they might as well have been expansion packs.

Activision aren't even trying. At least EA have recognised their mistakes and are cleaning up their act.

I also don't like CoD's gameplay. Anyone else feel like 60fps is just a bit too slippery and fast for an FPS? It doesn't feel realistic; it's too twitchy and it all feels too floaty somehow.

Oh, and the multiplayer is pants boring. I nearly fell asleep, stuff like Battlefield or Halo is much more exciting. CoD has all these stupid unrealistic perks which just send balance and fairness to the hounds.
