Been looking around the forums now for awhile and some of the people here are recommending Unity for some of the beginners who wanna do games. Though questionwise are Unity any good for like prototyping/experimental games or is it more suitable for creating full fletched ones? And what would be a recommended level of experience for it? Have checked their website a little and it seem like very fully fletched game development tool but i can be wrong. Anyone with experience with it that can tell me the pro's and con's of the tool?

Unity is a full-fleged game development kit containing a game engine of sorts (haven't fully looked into it but it seems pretty flexible) and a variety of tools to help create content and package it all up for distribution.

I don't know the exactl licensing scheme for Unity but it appears to also be very flexible although the 'free' version clearly has some limits.

Without having actually used it but looking at the features and screenshots I'd say the 'free' version is great for prototyping. If you end up actually shipping you can easily get a different license and you've got a fully developed engine that can be very quickly and (seemingly) easy packaged for redistribution.

I guess the best advice I can offer is give it a shot. Download it and see what it's like. If it works for you, use it.
