I don't drink at all. I'm under 21, but at this point I suspect that if I were interested in drinking that wouldn't really have stopped me.

Quite. But keep in mind that just recently there was some study that said that teenagers were drinking less alcohol and smoking cigarettes less, but were using more marijuana, and pretty much everyone in the media and politics that I heard seemed to think that this was a bad thing. I don't think the law has the right priorities pertaining to this sort of thing. Maybe that will change some time, but for now I'm just going to accept that it doesn't make sense.

I don't smoke marijuana, either, but it's just the logic of the whole thing that bothers me.

It tastes good. That's a good enough reason right there. If that's wasting money, then creme brulee and smoked salmon are a waste of money. As for your "good reasons not to do so", the only ones I'm aware of all involve excessive consumption; even over-consuming water will kill you.

I don't smoke and I don't go around telling smokers to their face how bad their habit is, because chances are they know fine well due to all the health warnings out there. Same with alcohol; I know the health risks but continue to do it. Big deal, I've never ever touched any kind of illegal drugs (not even weed, never interested me at all) so that's something I guess.

I hope you weren't implying that Machaira was "shouting it from the rooftops" or "ramming it down your throat". Owl asked "Do you drink?" Obviously "no" is an acceptable answer to that question.
