What to do in Florida/Miami...
Gdnet,
I require your services:
I'll be over in Miami for a few days (19-25 Jan) for the Khronos Group Face2Face meeting and a weekend break, just wondering what things people would suggest as _must do_ items for Florida visitors!
One possible is a rather long drive/religions pilgrimage up to Cape Canaveral as I've always wanted to see the place, though I'm gutted the trip isn't a week or two later as I'd have really digged seeing a Shuttle launch!
Let me know your suggestions :)
Cheers,
Alex

Yeah Cape Canaveral is fun. They have a lot of stuff to see there. I spent about 6 hours walking around on a tour.
I'm from Canada but I really liked Miami, South Beach! There's a nude section there if you're up for that - but keep in mind you may come across a part of the beach with guys wearing leather speedo's .. just keep walking don't stop to talk. Good luck!
I hope you have fun!

Yeah IMO Cape Canaveral, DisneyWorld, and the Miami beaches are pretty much what people visit Florida for. Also, the weather is overrated IMO. California, namely LA and SD have way better weather all year round.
Hopefully the cold weather will be gone by the time you visit if you choose the beach option.
Personally, I was looking forward to seeing a shuttle launch but unfortunately they don't really happen that often and one didn't happen while I visited so I missed out on that :(
Remember they are scrapping the Shuttle soon so this might also be your last chance to catch one if you are somewhat interested.

Was surprised to see the bit about the weather, its going nuts! We've had more snow here than I've seen since the late 80's - on a bright note at least anything above 3 degrees Celsius will be a novelty even if I don't get the 20 I was hoping for! And if worst comes to worse, I'm sure Dennis Quaid will save us!
Note to the scientists - Drop 'global warming' and go back to calling it 'climate change', its a much safer bet!
Its almost a shame the Shuttle era is coming to an end, its still an amazing machine by any standards, especially considering its age now! There's 5 launches left so I'm considering an east coast road trip as a possible excuse for dropping by later in the year [smile] (cash flow allowing)
Instigator, thanks for the heads up on the speedos - _valuable_ info [lol]
What would people recommend for transport? I might hire a car for the trip to CC, as I've never done that before, otherwise I'm guessing there should be a fairly good train service up the coast right?

Interestingly enough, I've met a lot of people who told me that they hated Miami. Something to do with the people...
In any case, I didn't know about the shuttles being cancelled. That's kind of sad.

Car is your best option. High speed rail is only in the planning stages.
