This may seem silly, but is there any way (through windows settings or something) to disable the insert key on the keyboard? I ask because it''s right next to the backspace key on my keyboard and I keep hitting it when I program, and in VC++ that turns on the overwrite mode. I never use this mode on purpose, and I''m getting sick of always typing over stuff. Alternatively, is there any way of just disabling overwrite mode in VC?

why don''t you just take the whole key out? I hit that stupid and pointless key a bunch too.

I''ve used overwrite a few times, but usually when I hit it, it''s by accident. It''s not that big of a problem, since, assuming you''re looking at the screen at the time, it''s easy to notice that it''s on and to turn it off.

You just made me notice that the insert key IS in fact next to the backspace key. I was thinking, the insert key is waaay further right?! wtf is he on about!? And then I looked at the keyboard

Yep, I think we''re all in agreement that yes, the insert key is in fact right next to the delete key, but the question remains...

I have considered removing the key altogether, but that wouldn''t be my first choice. I''d rather find some option somewhere and turn it off instead of taking a screwdriver to my keyboard! :-)

Actually, I never hit the Insert key. That's probably because I hit the right keys the first time. Or maybe it's because there's a full centimeter between my backspace key and the insert key.

Well, with me the distance is 2cm, I have an MS Natural Keyboard Pro USB or whatever MS should stick with making Visual Studio and input hardware, that seems to be what they do best.

I knew someone who painted his entire keyboard black and failed to add the little tiny letters. It was a lot of fun watching him hunt-and-peck.

I think I''m gonna do that with _my_ box''s keyboard... That''s actually a pretty good idea

Personally I like that key... It works really well for doing the pre-function comment blocks that i always do... It allows me to fill in the box so that there are no unaligned borders... I love it....

Actually, that''s mostly what I use it for too. Just overwrite when I want to change something in the function comment block so that I don''t have to delete everything and add spaces to align it. Saves like an extra 5 seconds.
