At my high school they offer CS1 - CS4 and APCS. I didn''t know this as a freshman (last year) so i never took CS1&CS2 (semester courses) These teach pretty tame pascal. (is this standard? why would they teach pascal?) I have taught myself to program over the past two years and I am learning about the STL and WinAPI in C++. I talked to the teacher and got her to let me skip CS1 and CS2. I''m afraid that CS3&4 are going to be doing some sort of advanced pascal, which i know I could do but I just don''t know the language. Does anyone know what the deal is with CS3 and 4? Should I try to test out of CS3&4 too, I attended an Advanced Programming Workshop where my instructor asked me to teach next year so I feel that I may be a tad bit above the Pascal that my school is offering. ----------------------------- "this one time at computer camp..."

I took CS classes at my high school for the past two years. The first year had a semester of QBASIC and a semester of C++. It was a complete waste of time. The second year I took APCS. It wasn''t very hard either. We barely went over classes and had nothing about pointers. The class always went too slow for me and I ended up learning things ahead of time to keep from getting too bored. I got a 5 on the AP exam. If I had it to do over again I wouldn''t have taken the first year and instead I would have gone straight to the AP. The first year wasn''t a prerequisite at my school, so I wouldn''t have even had to test out of it.

From the sounds of it you''re pretty good at programming so I doubt you''d have any trouble with the pascal, but it sounds like you''re way above that. In my opinion the AP class is a waste of time too, as far as learning goes, but you do get college credit for it. I''m going to college next year and assuming there''s room I''ll get to skip intro to CS and start out at CS1.

I should probably mention that there are two APCS courses. My school only offered the easier one. If your''s has both I can''t tell you anything about the harder one. It might be better.

I would try to get out of the CS3&4 courses if you can.
