Project name: Troubleshoot Brief description: As a precursor, I'm not entirely sure I'd like to commit to running my own project at this point, and am only posting this to see initial interest, especially to see if another producer/designer type individual would be willing to work a close partnership with me. As I learned last time, I can't do things all by myself, so this post is mainly to see if anyone else is interested enough in the idea to play a major role. Possibly an individual who is in the same boat as me, who wants to be a major part of something, but doesn't quite have the time or resources to do a project by him/herself. PLEASE NOTE: I do plan for this to be a fairly equal partnership, and just because I made the post, does not mean I expect to make all the design decisions. Just because this is technically my project, does not mean you do not have major input into what would go into this game. After all, its tough to play such a major role in a project that consists of none of your ideas because there's no passion in what you are doing. This is just a fairly loose framework that I would like to stay semi-close to, but am very open to other possibilities. Please view my other thread here to learn more about me (I would highly suggest skimming over this before reading the rest of the post): Here As for the actual project basis, Troubleshoot is a multiplayer only shooter, set in a futuristic, sci-fi universe. The basic gameplay premise is similar to that of Lost Planet 2. You and a team of X number of players are tasked with defeating larger than life enemies, often with multiple phases on an arena type level. For examples sake, in the LP2 demo, you are against an extremely large worm, which you must attack his legs until they collapse, at which point you go inside and attack an inner piece until he spits you out. Essentially, each fight lasts anywhere from 10-15 minutes and you are given limited respawns, making it imperative to work together as a team to stay alive and accomplish whatever goals that phase might contain. A lot of you at this point may be saying, "So you're remaking Lost Planet 2? Stupid." Well only in the sense that that was the best way I could describe the gameplay. Half the battle in Troubleshoot is done before-hand, with a robust customization menu, where you are given a set amount of "cash" to outfit your character with a variety of upgrades, weapons, perks, etc. The game is solely based on cooperative multiplayer (though of course, it wouldn't be incredibly difficult to add a competitive version), and the idea of a team of people taking down an epicly sized foe. Why is this idea fun to create?: Deep RPG-Type systems gives us plenty of upgrades and perks to create. Gameplay allows us to come up with original boss designs with essentially no limits. Original World gives us freedom to create our own weapons, characters, story (of why these huge things exist), and enemies. I think the #1 thing to emphasize is freedom, as we have limitless possibilities to what could be put in, as we aren't spending monotonous time on smaller enemies or single-player campaign-style levels (which are massive and take forever to create typically) Why is this idea fun to play?: Playing with friends (or even strangers) to accomplish a massive goal. Ratings at the end of each boss kill keep you wanting to improve. Customization system and unlocks keep people coming back for more to perfect their build or reach that next plateau. Target aim: Unsure Compensation: Until I decide which engine we are using (Source would be the mod engine), I can't say. I hate being a profit-sharing project, as honestly, that never works out for 95% of projects anyway. Join for fun and experience, not for profits. Obviously, if there is money made, your contributions won't go unnoticed. Technology: As stated above, if this is decided to be a Mod, I'd personally choose Source. (For those saying, "Why not UDK!?", well because Unrealscript is bad and hardly any programmers know it). What is likely is an already built 3D along the lines but not limited to Unity, Esenthel, or C4. Whatever we choose, it will be C++ and highly flexible. I highly, HIGHLY doubt I'd want to take the type to custom-build an engine for this unless some crazy programmer is feeling ambitious. Talent needed: As noted at the top of the thread, I'm currently only in search of someone who is willing to take on a producer/leader/director/designer role to aid me in team management and production. While I know I have the skills necessary to do it, the main issue as time, and that is easily the wall I ran into on my previous project. I'm looking for someone who will be committed and dedicated to helping me on something like this, and not flake out when things get hard. Someone who is both there to contribute ideas, and take the reins to run things temporarily when I can not. I'm looking for a skilled communicator with great people skills, and of course, those with a creative imagination. I need someone to prove to me that I could count on them and that someone will have my back when I need help. As I said earlier, the best case would be someone who is in the same position as me, as someone who wants to play a major role in a project, but may not have the time or resources to do it all alone. If you're not a producer/designer type, but rather an artist or coder, I wouldn't mind hearing from you as well just to know that there is additional interest in this. Of course, considering we have nothing major to show for it, I don't expect much interest from that side of things, unless my post just blows you away! : D Team structure: Just me for now.
