Heck even though I am NOT a programmer (Or atleast not a good one), I do not want to click that. I feel, that in order to be accepted in this community, I must forsake RPG Maker, Tickity Tack, and Dark Basic, become a real man, and know, off by heart, C/C++, ASM, and OpenGL.

This is how I gained the title "King of the Newbies," and "Watakashi wa kanadajin IMASU!!!"

(hehe... I wish A)More message boards had Hiragana support, and B) I had a Hiragana keyboard. I still have no idea whether that "wa" should be "de" or not...)

The problem with construction kits is not that you can''t make a good game with them, but that the kind of people that use them are usually the kind of people that are too lazy to put any time into making a game and thus games made with them typically suck.

1)They might be good if you''re working by yourself and don''t
have a team of programmers or artists to do it for you.

2)Perhaps it would even be a good project for some of us.
Certainly requires one to have a good understanding of whatever
genre the kit helps make.

3)Let''s face it, some people can''t program. Too creative
to be analytical?

A klik&play for those who do know how to make games...
4)I imagine the click games to be pretty bad, yes, but I think
if the right kit came around, we really would see a great game
come from someone who can''t program. I''ve read a few post
mortems, how many times does a feature get cut because a team
is having trouble implementing, in other words programming, it.
I think that most kits are too easy, no room to expand.
What we need is say a hackable kit or a suite of kits that
allows for what we code long and hard for. I know it sounds
like I''m trying to make everyone lose a job, but if the best
games out there right now could just be made from a kit it
would really spur competition and game developers would have
the opportunity to work harder at at being innovative,
creative, and unique cause they don''t have to worry about the
mundane stuff. A hackable kit would also allow for us to
greatly improve the parts of the kit game that makes it look
standard or run-of-the-mill.
If I had a really neat idea for the next FPS but couldn''t
program or even understand the graphics, I''m sunk.
I know there are a few free engines out there but this is the
kind of thing I''m talking about. We need maybe something
that doesn''t make the game for us, just takes out the boring
stuff so we can work on a new feature and perhaps just make
developing games go faster for the experienced.

Well, Level editors are starting to go this way... why not have other aspects of the game as well? With World Craft, you can construct some not half bad levels...

Perhaps this is the way that the Natural Speech langauges are going?

Speaking of natural speech, the site www.opencyc.org has really got me hyped (I just was shown it like ten minutes ago). So just wait until the editor for that software goes GUI?
