do you think Max Payne lives up to the hype?

Agreed, it''s great. The only bad thing is that it''s a bit linear. You really don''t have a lot of choices where to go.

Personally I think Max Payne''s story held together very well - the mood was unbreakable. Bullet time looks like a simple thing but there must have been a lot of serious design work to make it so simple and well-working.

Another amazing thing I''ve noticed is that people who haven''t played other 3D shooters can still survive and have fun in this game - I''d guess this is partially due to the automatically adjusted difficulty.

Yes, Max is linear and short compared to Deus Ex or No One Lives Forever but I''d argue that the story wouldn''t work anymore if it were "stretched" just to get more playing time.

You know, stretching "Leon" or "Terminator 2" to last 8 hours wouldn''t necessarily create a better movie.

In my opinion, both DE and NOLF were stretched in the middle - it became meaningless with too many similar missions.

Deus Ex is a great game and the team won a number of awards at the GDC 2001. As a playing experience, I think Max Payne was even better. My conclusion: yes, it lives up to the hype but it''s a great game only in its own niche - a movie-like shooter.

For as long as it lasted it was the best game ever.

Damn thing it was too short, but it one of the only game that I might play twice or more.

Great game. Deus EX could have been better, it would have been great if you could have chosen another path to play the game. The places where you could choose between some options didn''t change much of the game. And no matter how you played it you could choose any of the 4 endings(was it 4?)

"...I was in a computer game...funny as hell, it was the scariest thing I coult think of, knowing someone was controlling your every move, and slowing time down to show off your moves..."

I love that part

Although I completed the game in only two days I still consider it brilliant. Disappointed in the lack of multiplayer though (bullet time could have been removed for multiplayer).
