I've been searching for a &#106avascript library to use for an isometric map in a browser-based RPG game. The only one I have found is the upcoming Aves engine which looks great except for its commercial nature (not within the budget of a hobby project).

Does anyone know of any alternatives, preferably open source? I'm also interested in hearing about projects I could collaborate with, in case I have to go about reinventing the wheel.

Surely someone else here is doing something like this too... ;)

My game (in sig line) has an isometric hex-based map. There is no "library", but there is a lot of working code to handle things like movement, line of sight and so forth. What kind of collaboration were you looking for?

I mean collaboration on creating such a library.

I took a quick look at your game. I don't think it's taking quite the same approach as my game. It seems to me most things are done on the server side, forcing a page load every time you do reposition the map. What I have in mind some more of a client-side GUI library. Including features like panning (drag), zooming, rotation (by 90 degrees), and of course a simple API for managing the tiles and objects.

If I end up writing the code, I might as well share the results, as I doubt I'll be the last person to be searching for this. If I can find other people interested in using (and hopefully even contributing to) the library, it could save work on both parties.

At one time I saw a nifty demo of a map like you're describing. Though, I can't recall any part of the name or domain. I'm sure the link was here at GameDev, though. Did you try searching the forums for "&#106avascript scroll tile map"?
