Hi, I just starting using Code::Blocks 8.02 for Ubuntu linux and have a simple question after creating a console application and the terminal window opens and i go back to the program i am working on to edit and when i go to build it's in grey and i cannot compile i know that's not big problem cause all i have to do is close the terminal then compile, but what i was wanting to know is there a setting or fix to this using C::B; will it let me open up another terminal with the current edited program?

Code::Blocks will refuse to let you build while the program is running (in fact, all IDEs do that). There is no way to work around it - if you really want to do that then run the program directly (not from the IDE), but beware that you can't use the debugger or anything there =P

That console you mention is just a wrapper for running the program that lets Code::Blocks pause when the program quits and show the return value. Because of this, Code::Blocks won't know the program is over until the terminal is over. There's an option to disable that console in the project properties.
Don't pay much attention to "the hedgehog" in my nick, it's just because "Sik" was already taken =/ By the way, Sik is pronounced like seek, not like sick.

Dude, you need punctuation. Phrases like

Quote:

are just not meaningful (tm).

This is better:

(excuse any error by me, but with all the html-formatting I lost track)

Under Linux (unlike Windows) you can overwrite the executable, while it is running. This is a neat feature for testing changes and comparing the outcome.
I can't help You with Code::Blocks, but I can recommend Qt Creator, it is an amazing IDE.

Oh, yes, I heavily recommend it, too. Great help integration, but often you don't need help because you can just press F2, find the declaration, and see what't necessary. Code completion is great, too (actually, it worked massively better in QtCreator than in MSVC when I was "porting" picogen for some benchmark). And debugger integration is great, even for gdb.

edit: disclaimer: Have't tried latest code::blocks, though.
