I used to be VERY scared of spiders..Even small ones...If one was in my room and it escaped behind something I would tear the place appart breathing heavily until it was dead...

Even when it was dead and gone I had trouble relaxing.

The past few years the fear has almost dissapeared..I still don´t want them around and I will hunt them down and kill them but once they are dead I´m fine again...Thank God !

Arachnophobia no fun at all..

around here, we have these dock spiders that are about the size of your fist. huge ugly things that bite, and they hurt dammit. but they''re little teeth are no match for a big rock

jumping spiders r cool tho, i used to always play with them.

I love spiders ever since I was bitten by a radioactive spider and got its powers. Now I have the comparative strength and agility of a spider , couple with my spider sense I.............. wait a minute , thats Peter Parkers story , agh well , I guess I just like spiders.

Spiders scare me. Recently, larger spiders have been coming into my house, hunting spiders and the like. I''m too squeamish to crush them and I''m too frightened to grab them with a paper towel in my hand. So I just suck them up with the hose attachment on my vacuum. Oddly enough, I''m not too squeamish to crush flies with my swatter. As a matter of fact, I rather enjoy it. Like a sport.

You know whats real fun... pulling off ONE wing off a house fly, and then watch it attempt to fly away.

The main things that freak me out are Hornets, Wasps, Bees, and Flying Ants.

With Hornets, Wasps and Bees, I am never sure if I killed it, or if it is faking it, and waiting until I was sleeping to return.

With Flying Ants, I''ve seen too many Discovery Channel specials, on the Ants that explorers accidently brought to Hawaii. That if one preditor kills one, about several hundred of its friends come, swarm the preditor, and eat it.

They scare the shed out of me Once while visiting a park with my school a huge butterfly landed right on the top of my head. I ran and I ran shaking my head and trying to get the darn thing out of my hair. I must have looked really stupid...

I live in Washington state, too. Where I live there a re a ton of spiders, but I''ve only been bitten by one once(wasn''t that bad). I don''t think any of them are dangerous, but I''ve heard stories about spiders that can kill you. Their backs look like violins.

Densun : I wanted to find the exact name, but I can''t seem to... ah no, there, oh, and there too. It looks exactly like the ones we had in the basement... mmmh
The ones that actually come in the house and used to make their cobwebs in my bedroom have thinner legs and less hair. Maybe it''s a Tegeneria Atrica, but it seemed to me mines where thinner legs.
Anyway... they are very shy and harless animals. Sometimes I would wake up at night and see one of them hurrying to cross my room, instantly stopping if I blew on them or turned the lights on.
They are very useful creatures that will catch the damn flies in summer time, something you can''t underappreciate if you are living in the country. Though I never really convinced my mother on that one
I definitely prefer a cobweb up under my roof than those annoying flies.

Though I can''t understand what kind of childhood trauma can cause someone to like splatting insects or takinf them apart while they live.
And to be scared of butterflies ? Now THAT''s a pretty funny one...

Try to catch a fly *without* hurting it, then release it. Now that''s having skillz. I can do it pretty easily if given enough room. It''s too easy when they are reproducing in summer, though.

As for Flying ants... they don''t exist. Ants sexed genres have wings. Workers don''t have wings, males and females do. In summer, usually around the longest / warmest day, they''ll all launch from their birth coloy to shag in midair, then the surviving females will try to found new colonies wherever they can. AFAIK you don''t have anything to worry about, except getting rashing ants in your barbecue (they are pretty bad fliers).

MMmh, OK, I hate stinging ones (hornets and wasps, that is), but with reason, believe me.
Though I wouldn''t crush them if I can pacifically guide them *outside* of my house.

Spiders? That''s nothing...
Every summer I must catch several bats in our house that comes through the ventilation vents. Now most of the time I have no problem doing that but it''s kinda creepy when you''re not prepared and suddenly a bat comes flying, almost crashing into your face. Or when you wake up at night because a huge bat is crawling up your leg... That scared the shit out of me

My sister is terrified of spiders. When I used to live at home it used to really piss me off, I''d be asleep and she''d run in screaming about some gigantic spider that was in her room, and I''d have to come in and throw it out the window. It got better since we got our cat because she eats them, saving me the hassle of disposing of them. And my mum is terrified of moths. I agree with ahw - Id rather have the nice quiet spiders than those bloody annoying flies which buzz around your head, or bang into the same window every 5 seconds (despite the fact that the window next to it is wide open) and just generally get on your nerves. Of course, the cat eats the flies as well (our cat is extremely cool)

There is a joke about spiders for you, children!

A guy is experimenting with spiders. He teach a big ugly spider to jump every time he says "JUMP!". In some first tests, he says "jump" and the spider do what it''s supposed to do. That first test is ok, then.

For a second test, he takes a leg of the spider off (are they legs or do you call them in another way) and then says "jump", and the spider, after a lot of work and concentration, does it again.

For a third test, he takes other leg off, and when he says "jump" the spider jumps (but it''s coming difficult for it, BTW).

After trying taking every leg of the spider off and looking to the spider to see if it continues jumping when he ask it to, he takes the latest leg and the spider is now just a small black ball.

Then he says: JUMP!

And the spider does nothing, as you could imagine.

He repeats: JUMP!

And the spider try and try, but it can''t fly nor jump with no legs. So it stays without moving.

After trying some more times, the scientific gives up and writes in his notepad:

If you take all the legs of a spider away, it can''t hear anymore.
