I am looking for either commercial or an opensource solution that allows the users to create 3d models while online and edit them as well. Typically, it should have standard 3D primitives (points, lines, polylines, 3D faces) and allow editing operations that includes copy, move, rotate, delete, etc. It should also support snapping to 3D primitives for the purpose of creation and editing - such as snapping to t vertex and drag it to snap to another.

Can someone point to any resources that I can explore - I very well understand that there may not be an out of the box solution - but it is so tempting to think that there should be one because there are so many 3D modelers running on desktop out there.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Probably doesn't exist.

For the most part, web applications with 3D graphics have either been incredibly simple or have required plugins (and so aren't really web applications.)

HTML5, once well supported, should bring the level of dynamic interactivity up to par for this type of thing along with WebGL. Already there are a couple 3D game engines built on HTML5+WebGL+&#106avascript on par with, say, Quake III or Unreal circa 2002, that are true web applications -- so the time to actually be building this sort of application is now, if there's a business case for it.<br/><br/>

Actually speaking, I don't mind plugins - Flash, Sliverlight etc. are fine to use for my online application.
