I'm having trouble getting my code to work on some machines. I thought at first that it might be that the code was dependant on the SDK being present but I have seen it working on machines without the SDK. Can anyone suggest where the problem might lay?

Please be a little more specific. Does you program throw an exception? What doesn't work? Usually, with this type of problem, it is either a Java version problem or a classpath problem, but without a little more information, it could be anything.

Beside obvious first check of classpath and java version, your app might also use extra classes that are not part of the JDK and not presetn on some machines or iIt can use native calls to libraries and function not found on or not working same on all machines.

The feed back that I got from other users was that it failed with a blank screen no error message or anything. One user though updated to the latest version of Java and it worked, so it seems its a java version problem. Would have been useful if Java had some system of telling users about this rather than just leaving a blank screen. Is there some way I can write a script that checks the users version of java and then if the version isnt greater or equal to that of the java code, tell the user to update his java? I'm sure I remember reading about a script that did that somewhere but cant find any reference to it on the net.
