I''m just starting out with C++ and I was wondering if C++ supports connections to the internet or email. Like if I wanted the program to get some information off the internet or read an email, could it be programmed to do this? Thanks

Yes, this is possible. Many applications written in C/C++ use the internet (your web browser is a good example).
However, this is not a simple topic. There is no getWebPage(char* address) function you can call. If you''re really new to C++ then I would suggest getting a good grasp on the language before trying to get into networking (it can involve a lot of complex stuff like multi-threading). However, if your main goal is to learn networking, I would suggest looking into Java. It makes the learning curve a lot smaller and is built for easy networking.

for using c/c++ to make connections over the internet.

Let me know if you need any more help (I''m pretty good at this whole netwoking thing).

Of course.

I want to create a program that lets the user input text and the program analyzes it. The program would also have to connect to the internet and be able to use email. If this is all i''m going to have the program do, should I just use Visual Basic? I already know VB very well. The other thing the program would have to do is be able to handle large databases. There would be no graphics in the program at all. So which should I use, VB (which I know), C++ (learning), or Java (no clue!) ????

Thanks!
