Compiler design is an advanced college-level area of study that is incredibly complicated. You will not find tutorials on it.

In addition, Visual C++ is not just a compiler; it''s an IDE. That adds the additional complications of creating a user interface in which to code.

If you truly want to make a compiler (not a good idea, IMHO, but nobody''s stopping you) it would be best for you to learn assembly. A compiler typically translates from a higher-level language to ASM (assembly) which is then translated into machine code. If you don''t know ASM, there''s no way you''re going to compile higher-level code to it!!

Of course, the existence of a tutorial doesn't automatically bring writing a compiler within the realm of possibility. As TerranFury mentioned, you'll need a college course or two.

Why would you want to make one anyway? MSVC is pretty nice. Aren''t there much more productive things to program?

I wrote a front end for a Virtual Boy compiler. www.teenproductions.com it''s the VBDK.

There was a project going on to compile C into Virtual Boy code but I stopped paying attention to that stuff before it was completed.

You might beable to get some source out of them. You could also look up information on the Gameboy. A lot of people have written compilers and apps for it.

If you want to learn how to write a compiler it''d probably be easier to start with old gaming systems since they''re less complicated and have larger communities for doing such things.
