Web Browser Assistance

Hello.
I recently reinstalled my computer (Sadly I still use Windows Vista because I haven't gotten a copy of Windows 7 yet)

My first question would be, what Web Browser do you use, and why?

And I got this popup to choose a Browser for myself.
First I saw the Regular ones

Internet Explorer

Mozilla Firefox

Opera Browser

Safari

Google Chrome

But then I scrolled a little and found browsers that I've never even heard of before...

GreenBrowser

Sleipnir

Flock

K-Meleon

AvantBrowser

Maxthon Browser

FlashPeak SlimBrowser

And my second question would be, does any of these other browsers look anywhere near promising?

Third and hopefully last question:
I like Internet Explorer, and I want to update into what I think is the last version, 8. But when I try to, It says that I need to do some updates to my computer, so I follow the guide and go into the Windows Updater and update everything, but now I see that there are 2 optional updates left that I need to complete, but as I enter the list with updates, there is nothing in the list to check and download.

Still it says that I have 2 optional updates left, and Internet Explorer is still unupdateable...

Thanks for your posts and I hope we will work this out together. :)
I used to use Opera, but I found that most of the stuff I liked about it got moved into Firefox and there were quite a few times where the browser wasn't saving cookies correctly or wouldn't display web pages properly.

I use IE at work and FireFox at home. I have grown to love and appreciate Firefox more and more. I like how it is more customizable and there are addons for a lot of things that I go, "Hey, my browser should do this."

Occasionally I'll still see a site that requires IE but almost all sites work with firefox and IE now so it's rare that I have to open it up to view a page.

Honestly, it's pretty easy and doesn't hurt anything to download them all and try them all out to see which one you like the best. With online bookmarking (I still use Delicious religiously), you don't have to be tied down to one browser.

How to solve Internet Explorer 8 installation problems.

I have them all installed. I tend to use Firefox 4 right now, but when I do JS and HTML 5 I test against IE9 Preview. (The newest one is, dare I say it, better than all other browsers). Chrome is cool and I'll open that from time to time, but it's not something I'd use on a regular basis. While I have Opera installed it can go DIAF for all I care (their developers hate web applications for some reason).
What's your problem with Opera? I'm using it all day and have rarely a problem with it (except of course the "you appear to be using an outdated browser" nonsense).
I generally use Chrome on my laptop. I occasionally fire up IE so that I can use the non-light version of Outlook Web Access for my my work e-mail. On my work computer I use Firefox. On my phone I use Dolphin Browser.

The IE interface bugs me, so I just don't really use it. I tried Opera before, but uninstalled it because I didn't feel like adding yet another browser to the mix for no reason.

I use Chrome because it is wicked fast. I use Firefox sometimes in development because Firebug works most of the time, whereas Chrome's &#106avascript dev tools <i>break</i> most of the time.

Besides a lot of web sites not supporting it? At random times it will just stop remembering cookies until I uninstall and reinstall it. Case in point, Gamedev.net and facebook. I'll end up having to manually log-in every time I visit. It gets quite annoying.

But ultimately it no longer serves a purpose for me. I originally got it for speed dial, tabbed browsing, and tab saving. Firefox (and IE for that matter) both do that now, so why use Opera?

I originally abandoned it back in version 9 because its &#106avascript regexp engine was so broken that it couldn't even run the standard JSON library (breaking my and several other web apps). And its canvas tag was also quite different from other implementations, making it a tough build target. In version 10, those problems seem to have been resolved, but they lost me already.
I converted to be Mac centric last year, so I tend to use the Mac version of Chrome for my general browsing. When I'm at work, I'll use Firefox because Firebug is awesome and the dev tools in Chrome/Safari suck in my opinion.

I'm doing more with HTML5/CSS3, so Webkit is important there.
