Brief description:
A real time strategy taking place in alternative 90s which revolves around three major factions
fighting over a alien object the commander must decide there fate as the three factions fight for power, control.

minor details of story:I wont spoil anything about the game story yet, although we have created 1 to 3 or 4 i call them story concepts.

Target aim:
Game development 2-3 years or 4 and at the moment our members decided to experiment the game
as a free indie for download once the game is completed, if the experiment goes well,
We will then work toward a retail (PC).

Compensation:
Again compensation/paying will only happen after the free/indie experiment, both of the team members will get shared, but again we will see how it goes first.

Technology:
At the moment we are facing a tough choice on the graphics engine, we thought of by starting to make our RTS by using the unreal engine.

But then noticed some complex issues when it comes to the UDK & RTS games one of the issues, only one rts game has been made with the UDK, and which is endwar.

Our team member said we probably should make a custom graphics engine similar to that of the Alamo engine made by Petroglyph Games.

We are looking for someone with engine programming experience, a 3D custom graphics engine we will be using for our game.

Talent needed:
-Lead 3D/2D Artist
-Concept artist
-Lead Programmer

Team structure:

krystal-lead writer

Additional Info:

Game atmosphere:
The gameplay atmosphere is a light/dark tune.
Factions & styles
each of the 3 factions will play differently from each other including the styles of buildings, vehicles, units.
Game Length:
possible single player length 7 to 9 missions for each factions.

That was built using Unreal 3, not UDK. There are several RTS orientated projects in production using UDK - but given that UDK has only been available for around a year, it's unsurprising none have been released yet.

There's even a free-for-use RTS framework that you can download...

Harvesting gameplay, i am not sure if harvesting coding in unreal has been tested yet, although i have seen videos of people experimenting this gameplay.

And harvesting/supplies gameplay will be in our game.

We still hope to make a custom graphics engine but if there was not better choice what would you recommend? a custom made or go with UDK?

Hi TotalGamer,

before starting your own engine, maybe you should have a look at this: http://glest.org/en/index.php . You can also download the source from here http://sourceforge.net/projects/glest/files/. The code itself is open-source, but this doesn't prevent you from selling the game later.

Additionally you could use the existing units for creating a prototype. It looks quite solid to me (it has sound, scripting, 3D graphics and whatnot). Creating that from scratch is very tedious. Also read this: http://scientificninja.com/blog/write-games-not-engines.

Should you need something more advanced I'm sure it would be much easier to create your own engine, once you collected some experience with this one.

Good luck!
