I was thinking of trying to get thing's going procedurally in my program. Obviously i'm not going to attempt to do a city or anything straight away, I want to learn the basics of it. For instance, could I start off with procedurally producing a very large amount of numbers? I can't really find what I'm looking for on google and I would appreciate insights from people on this site anyway. Thanks.

It normally boils down to Psuedo-random Numbers. Look into random number generation for the language you are using and work from there.

Also, Perlin Noise is rather important.

Perlin noise looks very interesting :P, thanks for the link, I will take a close look at it. AFAIK though, procedural programming allows you to do riddiculous thing's like produce and continue to use 1million numbers for as long as you want and get the same output every runtime. I can see how perlin noise will give you the same output every runtime but how would you actually... use a number from 0-1,000,000 without having to call perlin-noise function EVERY single time you needed to use number[x]?? I hope that makes sense.

For a decent overview and some more specific implementation articles (not tutorials)
[google] "procedural generation grammar"
Every link on the first page of search results looks like a must read. [smile]

[EDIT: "generative grammar" is another good one to search on]

<3 you, I thought a "procedural generation" search would have done it tho... oh well :D
