Depends. I usually listen to Bad Religion, Millencolin, Dinosaur Jr., NoFX stuff like that (punk/alternative). For background music i listen to radio or something (anything but rap ).

Well, I suppose I''m the odd one here: I happen to like rap. I don''t feel it is right to blatantly insult someone''s choice of music, especially since the thread topic wasn''t "What kind of music do you hate?" When will people learn...

In any case, I also like classical music, I really dig piano pieces by Beethoven and Lizst. I love John Williams'' movie scores. I also like R&B.

Hm...as of late, I''ve had a burgeoning interest in white music, and so I now occasionally listen to the Beatles and Staind.

I like classical, 60's Rock (Beatles rule!), Disco, Techno (or is it Industrial? Well, whatever it is you hear on the Command & Conquer soundtrack) I just don't like Rap.

I can find something I like in almost any genre except for country, smooth jazz, soft rock, older rock (Beatles, Elvis), and pop (or whatever it's called that N'Sync and such would fit into).

Right now I'm looking around at lesser known bands. They tend to have the type of stuff I like. Particularly in the heavy metal and hip-hop genre, such as Kutmasta Kurt and Old Man's Child.

Other stuff I've actively listened to before include new age, plain rock, big band jazz, electronica, classical, and industrial.

Yes, Wavinator, country can be good, it just depends on what you listen to. Few things can can compare to the beautifully melodic voice of Suzy Bogguss as she sings "Part of Me".

I''ll listen to some rap.

Mostly it''s all rock, metal, old jazz, blues, and even big band.

Doors, Stones, Ozzy, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Twisted Sister, Scorpions, AC/DC, CCR, Glenn Miller, Louis Armstrong, Sam & Dave. These are what makes Hikeeba happy.

The stuff I listen to most is funky/rock type stuff, eg Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, Incubus.

I also like most types of rock, including classic rock like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, newer stuff (but still fairly old school) like old (pre Load) Metallica.

Then there is new metal stuff, like Limp Bizkit, Korn, Hed Pe etc. Dont listen to this so much these days.

Also like some dance music (mostly old school stuff like The Prodigy or The Chemical Brothers) some rap (Cypress Hill, Dr Dre, some Wu Tang)

I generally dont like Country (except for certain songs for their humour value, or Shania Twain because she has such a nice ass) Jazz (although since listening to songs like Deep Inside/ Battlestar Scralachtica by Incubus it has started to grow on me)and most 'pop' music.

I also like any music that makes me laugh. Songs like Hocus Pocus (by Focus) Kyles Mom Is a Big Fat Bitch in D Minor, Ugly Girl (a remake or Barbie Girl by aqua) and the bonus track on the end of Incubus' SCIENCE album (the You Bitch song at the end reminds me of playing with my cousins keyboard when I was about 12 years old)

My life revoloves around 2 thing, my programming and my music, so this is my favorite sort of thread - a music thread in a game programming forum.

In the early 90s I was quite heavily into Techo but the sort of techno I''m on about is not the sort if techo I think anyone else in this forum is on about, in fact I only think you''ll know about this sort of techno if you come from the UK or Holland, if you come from the UK there is quite a good chance you''ve heard of Dreamscape or Helter Skelter and if you heard any tapes of DJ''s like The Producer, Clarkee, HMS, Scorpio, Mastervibe or any thing on record lables like Deathchant, Area 51, Mokum, H2OH, Hardcore Mafia then you know what I''m on about. This stuff generally plays around 200bmp.

Any way around 1998 it turns out this whole nation of supposed hardcore ravers are actually all pussies and everyone wimps out and starts listening to trance (for about a week) then hard house (what a load of shit). So I packed up up all my techo 12"s and only get them out now and then on a rainy day.

Now my life is all about Drum & Bass and its set to stay that way for quite a while. People who haven''t heard any drum and bass go and look up people like Optical & Ed Rush, Dj Hype and the True Playaz, Micky Finn & Aphrodite, Nicky Blackmarket, Bad Company, Fabio & Grooverider. I have been playing Drum & bass now for about 3 years and techno from ''96 doing my round at the free partys, festivals and raves and lately I''ve been writing some of my own stuff.

If there is only ONE thing I don't like, it's girls/boys band, apart from that, give me any type of music and I'll gladly listen to it. Of course sometimes it's a bit too much for me, I am mostly open to any type of music. Let's see...

mad hatter : Linkin Park, yes. Limp Bizkit, yes, but they are losing it man. Just check the first and second albums compared to the last one ! Although that's not punk music. I would mention some french bands of Ska punk and other more hardocre stuff, but what's the point... I'd hardly believe you can find that anywhere else than here

but anyway I agree with you, there is good rap. You probably don't know about Menelik, MC Solaar, IAM, and some others excellent rap bands/singers here in France. But they still kick ass. Good lyrics alone can be as enthralling (I hope that's the word) as good music.
Classic music is great, it's just so vast it's a bit hard to find anything for the neophyte (not like I am a specialist).
Personally I love orchestral music, it's just freaking great. Vivaldi's "4 seasons" is over played, but it still is a great work, I like Pier Gynt opera too (don't remember the author).
The Gladiator OST is excellent, too.

Archwizard : rock from the 60's, yes, some great stuff. I wish I could remember all the names, but I think of something like what you hear in Return to the Future. Rock-a-billy is the name, I believe.
Disco ? Errr ... as long as it's not pure boys/girls band I can listen to some of it without getting sick.
Techno : just like classical music, there is so much variety it's hard to choose.
Prodigy anyone ? Leftfield ? U.N.C.L.E. ? Propellerheads ? plenty others I don't know the names of... Ambient is cool to chill out after a good night of drinking. Jungle is weird but strangely attractive, Drum and Bass is hilarious, do you know of Super Sharp Shooter and the other songs of this CD, by Ganja Kru (IIRC). Excellent stuff !

Anyway, I agree hole heartedly. My practice of violin when I was younger and my whole family practising various intruments seems to have open my mind to a larger spectrum of music than you would expect. Or maybe it's just my endless craving for new things to discover ?

If you like to laugh, you should give a try to Ween. It's weird and quite hilarious, my favourite : "Push the little daisies [to make them grow up]".
Or Moog, (the album I have is called Cookbook), an obscure band that does remakes of classics like "Black Hole Sun", "Smells like teen spirit", etc, but with your 5 years old brother electronic piano ... if you can listen to a single track of their album without bursting in tears of laughter, you have a heart of stone !

I almost forget to mention Hooverphonics ! An excellent ambient triphop band from Belgium (IIRC), I just love their song Battersea (dunno the name of the album).
And Lacuna Coil, too, an italian goth band.
And some anime soundtracks too : vision of Escaflowne, Please save my Earth, Ghost in the Shell, Macross.
They are great, miing various styles. The combats in Escaflowne are absolutely amazing thanks to the classical music.
Ghost in the Shell opening soundtrack is just mesmerizing.
Some of the songs by Minmei in Macross make me cry...
