Greetings,

Our team is planning on making a game related to the Dungeon Keeper universe. Not an exact replication, but somewhat similar.

The engine should support digging through terrain, claiming the terrain, resource management, indirect unit control, etc.

Basically, it is a classic real time strategy engine, with some adjustments.

The question is:

Is it possible to create such an engine at your own with limited human resources (1 programmer)? If not, is it possible to buy an engine that would let us implement our own features into it? If yes, could someone please name a few engines that could be used for such a purpose?

Thank you.

I don't know any available engine which supports exactly these features, but almost any engine which supportes "dynamic" meshes could be used to implement such features. Take a look at ogre a free, open source 3d engine.

Yes, I think that it is possible, but you need to invest lot of time to write up your own engine. Try to use an available engine like ogre to speed it up !
