Hi all,

I am looking to bolster the performance of my input manager in my DirectX C++ PC Engine and I wanted to know what would be the best approach to getting gamepads into such an input manager.

If possible I want people to be able to plug in any gamepad and to be able to get some sort of response in the code. I was thinking are there any particular windows message events that are sent when a gamepad is connected?

If anyone has some experience with this field your help would be much appreciated, I know you can use direct input to get stuff like Xbox360 controllers to work, but I wanted to look at a more generic solution.

Cheers all.

well you'll need directinput for all kinds of joysticks and xinput for all xbox360 gamepads.
as for the plug event: Read this.

As for how to get it working, you could check out my code: SVN View or just ust the tutorials within the directx sdk
