Testing cross-platform code

Hi there,

I was wondering what some good options were for testing cross-platform code?

I have multiple computers, so having several different operating systems up and running at the same time isn't a problem for me. What I am wondering, however, is how I will be able to quickly run an application that has been compiled for another operating system.

Right now WMware Player looks interesting. Mainly, I am worried about having to move data over to another drive or computer to test it, but I'd prefer to be able to do it all from the same PC without having to reboot or anything like that.

Any ideas?

you need automated tests and "Continuous Integration" (CI).

A CI system builds your software on various platforms, runs all tests and reports the result (it can do even more, but thats another topic...).

It's been two years since I used VMWare, but afair configuring a drive towards your physical drive wasn't that big of a problem.

If you want a free (as in beer and speech) virtualization software, try VirtualBox. I have many virtual machines, and it is easy to "route" physical drives into the machine. It's also pretty good performance wise (and also nice if you have some legacy software, as for its seemless integration).

Try it out (it's free!) to the point where you route a drive into the machine, and I assure you that it's funny.
