Basic question about fps

Hello!

I have this question about the fps term:
I have seen both kind of games, one where the main game cycle is updated every "fps keyframe", so if you low the value, say, from 60 to 30, all the whole game will slow down by half. The other way that I have seen is that just the drawing is updated per keyframe, so when lowing the value, the game flows normally, but just the animations are cut by half, so it seems less fluid.

Which definition is correct?

Thanks in advance

FPS just means 'frames per second.' The difference you speak of is simply a matter of implementation. Does that answer your question? This is an excellent article on the whole ordeal: http://dewitters.koonsolo.com/gameloop.html

Seems your opinion is just the reversed...
AFAIK, it's more common to,
1, Stick the animation to normal FPS,
2, Update AI/physics in a lower FPS (half, etc).

Losing a frame in animation will be quite obviously, but no none will aware that an update of AI is lost.

However, if possible, it's easiest to just stick both animation and AI to same FPS.
