Brief description:

A 2D space strategy game aimed primarily towards Android 2.1+. A bit like Imperium Galactica, except much-much simpler. It is round-based.

You have planets that are like bases. You can build mines to gather resources, build turrets for defense and a shipyard.

Resources are used as the currency to build things.

Shipyards allow you to build ships so you can conquer other planets and destroy your enemy.

You can also use ships to transport resources between planets.

The idea is that large ships cost a lot of money, so you need to start small, conquer some nearby planets, gather resources and bring them back to your home planet so you can build better ships. Then you use these better ships to conquer even more planets, fortify them and finally to take on your enemy (who in the mean time also made ships and conquered planets of course).

Originally we planned different scenarios (islands, planets, desert fortresses, etc.) but right now I just want to finish the game as soon as possible.

Target aim:
Completely free. If the game gains popularity or a large number of downloads I may create a donate or ad-supported version, but it's unlikely that it will.

Compensation:

No compensation besides the obvious credit screen. If (by some miracle) the game generates income you'll get your fair share (15-40% based on your contribution), but as mentioned above, I don't see this happening.

Technology:

The engine is completely custom, written in C++. The only external tool currently used is Blender 2.5, which can be used to export models for the game.

Talent needed:

I'm looking for someone to do the following things or find people to do them (hence the manager/designer position):

  • play-test the game thoroughly
  • make design decisions - both gameplay and graphics-wise - and tweak the values to make the game fun
  • create a few different models (and textures) for planets and space ships
  • optionally re-design the interface (I think the current one is OK but apparently some people find it too simple)
You don't need to have an Android phone to play the game (it has a fully playable Windows and Linux version) but since Android is the primary target, it sure helps with the design (think: screen size, touch controls, etc.).

I'm not looking for programmers and you would not get access to the source code. You would get access to a website where new versions are automatically uploaded. If you need something special to test or design a certain feature, I can add a "cheat", a command-line parameter, an optionally loaded file, etc. that you can use.

I'm not looking for a complete design overhaul that would take months to finish. I'm looking for minor changes that turn a beta into a finished product.

If you find someone to work on the game (a 3d artist for example), they would get the exact same deal as you - a mention in the credits and a share of the income in case there is any.
I can also talk to them to a certain extent but I don't have a lot of free time so it would be most helpful to keep the team small and unnecessary communication to a minimum.

Why would you do all this? Because unlike 95% of these projects, this is actually mostly finished. Because it is a game design challenge you can take without any programming skills.

Team structure:

I've designed and written the core of the game with 3 of my friends during a week-long game design marathon, but since then they've all abandoned the project, so right now I'm the only one working on it.

Website:

The current one is just a placeholder: http://bolygo.sickjoke.info/

I made a video of the game (this is a few weeks old, it looks more polished now): http://www.youtube.c...h?v=owqrtnFUuFk.

You need to watch it in 720p because youtube screwed up the encoding.

Most importantly: I put up the android version on the market and I update it 1-2 times a week:

(the reviews are not too good at the moment, but oh well)

Contacts:

Please e-mail me at kalmard@gmail.com if you're interested. If we both decide to want to work with each other, we can chat over gtalk, skype, facebook, irc, whatever.

I'll also try to check this forum topic often but I prefer emails.

Previous Work by Team:

I (alone) made a terrible (but also terribly funny) video game called snake::reloaded. You can download it at its website.

Additional Info:

Running the game on Android requires a phone with 3d acceleration. The PC version runs on pretty much anything but a decent video card surely helps.

If you're not interested in working on the game but would like to try it and don't have an Android phone, feel free to contact me, I'll send you the newest windows version.

Feedback:
ANY
A few minor additions:
  • the game uses 3d models but everything else (mechanics) is in 2d. I guess you could call it 2.5d
  • I'll probably only be able to do serious work in january
