Hey all, I have a console project under VC, which ofcourse means limited access to the MFC stuff. I would like to create a semaphore to synchronize some threads access to data... Only problem is the old method I use of CMutex now does not want to compile in - and I reckon its probably because of this not being an MFC project. A limited look at the unix stuff and VC didnt seem to directly support it (unless I just didnt find the needed #includes). any help?

Those MFC classes are just wrappers of the Win32 API syncronization functions. If you want a Win32 mutex, you just call CreateMutex.

There is an option when you set up a console project to link to the MFC libraries.
