well that demo took me three weeks to knock up, I coded it, my brother does the artwork......I used this langauge before on the amiga computers about 7 pr 8 years ago they went broke .....and i found BlitzBasic PC version about 6 weeks ago so we kicked started a few old projects....there are heaps of tutorials around and quite a few come with the demo...so you shouldn''t have any trouble starting also there are blitz forums around to ask some of the experienced guys for help ...is pretty handy........yep directx7 is used in blitzbasic2d version....doesn''t do alpha transparency but blitz3d does...lol..i do not have that one yet but will do eventually.....

If you''re serious about making this game, be sure to do plenty of tweaking with enemy bullet speed and clipping(that is, how deep into your sprite the bullet can go before it registers a hit). I''ve been playing Mars Matrix a lot lately and a big part of what makes it so playable is how lenient it is with clipping. You can be seemingly overwhelmed with enemy fire, but there will ALWAYS be a way through. This makes for difficulty without cheapness. Also it needs to be 60 fps. Have game slowdown if you must, but always maintain 60 fps. Precise control is very important in these games, and a chunkier framerate makes the control less precise.

Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but WAAAYYYY to many enemies. Plus they don''t die quick enough. Especially if that is the first level. Reminds me of R-Type as well. Excellent graphics.
