Hey guys,

I thought we could share some of our main influences in regards to videogame sound tracks and composers. Hopefully we'll all share some stuff that other's haven't heard before. I'll get the ball rolling with my number one (and probably a lot of other peoples) composer, Koji Kondo. He's library is vast but my favourite franchise in his repertoire would have to be The Legend Of Zelda. Such memorable melodies and perfectly fitting vibes for all the fantastical backdrops throughout Link's adventures. One of my favourite game sound tracks is Secret Of Mana, scored by Hiroki Kikuta. Once again, such a good fantasy vibe that really pulls you into the story and talk about epic boss music!

I was one of those weird kids that loved classical music at a young age. Some of my primary influences were:

- Danny Elfman, Batman and Pee Wee's Big Adventure film scores for example.

- John Williams, just about everything he's written. If you want a good sampler of his stuff check out "By Request, The Best of John Williams."

- Maurice Ravel, especially this epic piece:

I'm exactly the same tongue.png

except I really like the composer of Pirates of the Carribean - Klaus Badelt

Love "Summon the Worms" by Brian Tyler (Frank Herbert's Children of Dune O.S.T). I think that it is one of the best epic soundtracks ever.

I also would like to mention every film score by Graeme Revell.
Denis Zlobin,
independent musician.
looking at that topic - instantly 2 composer popping into my mind:

- ennio morricone (watch the movies on youtube for free - very good)
very exciting which instruments he uses for that song

- Nobuo Uematsu
this piece i played for my final graduation test - and i still like playing it.
my piano teacher once said - for tests never choose pieces everyone plays - for me easy to find something different :)

Yes, Klaus is awesome. It's a shame that most people equate Pirates OST with Hans Zimmer instead of Klaus. A great score.

Hmmm hmmm I find this question hard to answer, there's just too many. Let's see, though, the most prominent are probably..

  • Alan Menken (especially The Little Mermaid)
  • Nobuo Uematsu (I've been told many times by various people that my music reminds them of his a lot. I should probably work on that...)
  • Hikaru Utada (Everything about her music is beautiful. Of my ten favorite songs ten would probably be hers, so i always aim to write as beautiful melodies as she does. I fail horribly lol)
  • Chris Hülsbeck (I only really know his scores for the Turrican game series, but these I know by heart.)

And this would be my favorite song Simple and Clean by Hikaru Utada, the theme song for Squaresoft's Kingdom Hearts.
