Is there a ''trick'' to loading textures? For example, the directx8 sdk has an .x file of a tiger that is loaded, and a bitmap of the tiger is then loaded and wrapped around it perfectly. HOWEVER if I try to substitute the bitmap for one of my own, renaming it of course, no texture is loaded. A similar problem is when I substitute my own .x file of a terrain for the sdk''s own (in donuts3D). The texture isn''t loaded! Help anyone? Observe everything, remember more!

In tigers case the texture is probably stored in the x file itself, as for Space Doughnuts the bitmap is probably stored internally by the program as a resource.

I just created a bitmap in Paint Shop Pro and wrote it over the top of tiger.bmp and it worked fine, i.e. the tiger was textured with the new bitmap.

You might want to check the format of the bitmap you created, i used 256x256x256 - the same as the original tiger.bmp.

For info, if you load the tiger.x file into DevStudio and search for TextureFilename, the 2nd occurrence is where the name of the bitmap is specified.
