Would an extremely simple 3D maze be a good first game? (first person view, btw.)

well.. a first person maze would probably be slightly irritating
if you wanted to make a maze interesting, make the camera
overhead with a limited view.. maybe a fog or something
that would be easy enough to implement.
the only way first person mazes would be fun/interesting is if there was some sort of conflict/puzzle/ect ie) D&D
but then again, you might just be after a functional game.. so in that scenario sure, a first person maze would work.

Nah, I readed in a tutorial (if it was here or somwhere else, I dunno), that the best is to make a simple Tetris or Pong game. But, hell... You decide!

Heh, my first DX game I''m making is.... *cough* tic tac toe. And I''m clinging to my book like grim death as I slowly succeed in building it. Kind of sad from my perspective, I went through my book twice (TOTWGPG), once doing it throughly getting every example done etc., and the second time to make sure I didn''t forget all the little things mentioned throughout the book. Then I realized I am completely clueless, even though I felt I knew everything I was told. Hehe, all but a few dishes have been broken, two television monitors destroyed, and a book shelf I attacked with an axe realizing I''m unable to do ANYTHING

Just make sure you are CAPABLE of creating the simple ''first game'' you want to attempt, it can be pretty damn stressful if you dont start simple enough

Well, it really depends on how good you are at programming and how you want to do it. Since your saying this is your first game though i wouldn''t recomend anything really hard graphic wise. My first game was a virtual pet. It was pretty crappy but it''s easy to use classes or structs with it, plus it''s really easy to do using only text for graphics. (cout<<(char)1; and cout<<(char)2; put little smiles on the screen)
I think there's to much blood in my caffeine system.

if this is REALLY your first game i suggest you make a nibble game.. the worm goes around eating fruits...etc... don''t use graphics but instead do it with text or simply use pixels in video mode...that''s the easiest first game i could think of...

3D maze it is...
It really doesn''t sound too hard. I''m almost done learning how to make objects in OpenGL (I could if I had the openGL code already made for me, but thats what I''m learning), and then all I would really need is collision detection. I''d probably also want texturing, of course.
