First off, let me tell you about what I want to accomplish here, its not a huge groundbreaking next generation massive multiplayer game that will never hit the shelves, its a RTS game I want to develop much in the style of Warcraft for one sole purpose -- to use as a portfolio showcasing my artwork. I am busy working 2 jobs and in-between everything I find little time to try and break into the field where I want to work, building graphics. I need a project to motivate me, and give the inspiration for all the concept sketches, tiles, sprites and characters I want to throw onto a cd with a cool layout and slap a label on it and call it a portfolio. But I dont have any programming abilities beyond Hello World! in C++, so this is where I could use some help. I dont need a strong motivated person, but I do want someone who knows what they are doing. In the end I want a great-looking, fast playing, and captivating game title. I say after warcraft because it was a game genre I enjoyed very much, not to mention its popularity. Plans are to go ahead and build the graphics for it anyways, but if someone wanted to slap together an engine and some AI and make a finished game, it would be awesome and way more impressive than 3 pages of concept sketches and textures. No money, sorry, and no other artists please. Of course, you will recieve full credit for anything you did. Works for your portfolio as well if you would like and you could also help design the whole game, as its just in idea stage right now. reply to this post if you want some more info, thanks everyone!

I''ve been thinking about doing something similar from a programming standpoint. I''d like to create a cd containing samples of code I''ve written that I could hand to an employer along with a resume. That''s why I found your post interesting. I do have a couple questions though...

First, even a simple game needs a project lead to provide direction and keep things organized. Do you intend to fill this role?

Second, a game is more than artwork and source code. Have you worked out any game mechanics? How about story? Sound effects and music?

I need a complete design document worked up for this project, then we can proceed with that design. If you want me to spearhead that, I will do my best. I would rather let the programmer decide what would be the fastest, best looking way to present the game, and work around his/her talents. As far as sounds and story and music, I work in a music store and have several friends who I could talk into writing a few tracks of background music and even sample some sound effects, I have access to all the recording equipment and I''m confident I could get some great sound and music. The mechanics of it, the storyline and everything are still brewing and taking shape in my head, some ideas will be getting out onto paper in the very near future.

Blackhatcher:

Currently I working on a small, but unique fantasy RTS. It is, however, similar to Warcraft as far as gameplay. The game is using an isometric engine which is in a working state, but still under development. The project could definiately use some quality graphics if your interested in the job. All you need to take care of is the graphics and I will handle the code, music, sound, etc.. and even pass you concept art along the way. Send me an email if your interested: logicx1@home.com
