This post is based on the book Isometric Game Programming with DirectX 7.0. I would like to know about mouse mapping in Direct3D with height mapping like the picture at the end. The book seemed to leave off too soon and I wondered how to actually mouse map. Also, I was wondering how to scroll in d3d. Mr. Pazera, if you read this I could really use your help. Thanks!

in brief...

you need to create an extra rendering target surface, and to it you render each row of the tiles in a single color. a similar idea for each selectable object (each object gets its own color). For the rows of tiles, normally you won''t have more than 50 of these on screen at the same time, so if you reserve the numbers 0-255 for these colors, you''ll do fine, leaving the other numbers for objects.

now, keep in mind that this goes by number, and not by color. so you have to convert from the native pixel format into the direct3d color format prior to drawing the polys.
