-Posting from my phone so sorry if it's kinda wierd-
polycode.org

So I stumbled upon polycode today and was wondering if any of yall use it. The ide looks amazing and the fact that you can use it on Mac, linux and windows (aswell as publish to them) is amazing aswell.

it's open source
sexy unity like ide
c++/lua
Make and publish games on linux , mac and windows.

The forums look dead but when someone posts something tons of replies Come in so I'm not sure if it's dead

so I was wondering if any of yall have used it before and Is it a viable option for game dev. If not check it out. I'm wondering if I should use this to make a game.

-feel free to move it to the right section-

Just use it already if you think it's cool! Why wait?

You can determine if the project lives by checking the activity in the source repository.

Otherwise: just go ahead and use it.

You don't risk anything.

Polycode does indeed look awesome. :)

I am not in favor of choosing a framework/library because it's popular.

I choose one because I like working with it, and because the project is not dead.

If the project is small (and open source) I don't usually care if it's dead or not if the project is straight-forward enough so that I can confidently maintain it myself if need be.

It looks really awesome. Sounds strange to me too that it seems to be less used than other popular frameworks.

I will give it a try one day or another.

I am not sure what you mean when you say that the forum looks dead?

There are lots of activity there, also from this year. And the posts are not one question and no answer posts either.

The project was a one guy private project before being opened up so that would explain that the project is not widely known despite it being feature complete.

It would be nice though if some people who have used it would chip in with their personal experiences with the framework. ;)

Heyo,

Polycode user and contributor here ;)

1. the binary release is finally there - check it out: http://polycode.org/download

2. my experience with Polycode:

It has been relatively hard to get into Polycode, but as through the binaries and new up to date docs on the new site, it got much easier!

If you once learned how it is structured you'll be able to write games in hours! But as the game becomes complexer the more you'll get problems - mainly in form of performance issues.. even it's rendering performance has been critically increased last September it still does to much computation on one single CPU core..

And the project is not dead! Even if you sometimes might be thinking it (e.g. jan - march where the project maintainer has been unavailable) there are still always some guys (well sometimes just me ..) around to support you on the official forum (http://polycode.org/community).

Atm. some bigger changes happen on local branches of Ivan (the designer and maintainer). E.g. binding lua scripts to entities (e.g. for better c++/lua interoperability) or also a main feature to be done is the OpenGL ES port for Mobile support

I hope I could tell you a bit about my experience... :)
