I want to write the next Black or White but need some advice: - I have never programmed before... which language would be best? Could I use QBasic? - What''s the best website for learning Windows and DirectX Programming from scratch? I don''t want to spend money on a book for something so easy. - I told my cousin I would have it up and running in two weeks -- is that enough time? - I have no idea about creating graphics. Does anyone know where I can get the graphics for Black or White without having to pay for them? Actually, just tell me where I can download the source code -- I''ll change the name of it. - ALl I have is a 486 with 16 megs of RAM... should I upgrade to 32 megs of RAM, or is that overkill? Please help! And provide source code examples!!! -Chris ---<<>>--- Chris Rouillard Software Engineer crouilla@hotmail.com

It was overdone. I''ve yet to meet a rookie that stupid.

Yes, you can definitely use QBasic... use SCREEN 9 for best results.

Oh, don''t bother with a website... it''s way too easy for that. Just start doing stuff... if you get stuck, come back here, and ask people to do the code for you. Pretend it''s a contest.

Probably... though expect to have coding sessions of almost an hour without going into an AIM chatroom and yelling "I 4M 500 l33t!!!!1", especially near the end of development.

I think Black and White copied all its graphics from "The Sims" and "My Favorite Animals"... track those down.

DEFINITELY overkill. Case in point... the QBasic game Gorillas. Great framerates even with 1 MB of RAM, and it has TWO monkeys.

I knew I had to fix the spelling!

I had just spent 6 hours trying to debug issues on a Japanese PC... the problem is that I don''t read Kanji, and the issues are giving me the wonderful "Memory" problems without telling me what program is causing the problems to begin with...

I decided to amuse myself (it worked -- I''m amused)
