WHICH 3D ENGINE?

Original Post
okay i have it all in my head... don''t laugh ;-)
now since we formed a team here comes the hard part - which engine to use. i''ve read tons of articles, reviews, specs and stuff like that. however i am still unable to figure that out.
here are some of the game highlights that may help if somebody decides to give me an advice:
* 1st / 3rd person adventure with some action elements - the character will be able to jump, duck, crawl, fly, shoot (at times) and everything else a regilar shooter incorporates. however the game will not be a shooter but adventure / quest.
* the game takes place on a distant planet with huge cities and areas for exploration.
* very high detail level (polygon count) for everything - exteriors, interiors, characters etc.
* cities will be full of buildings, traffic, people.
* if i have to give an example - ''omikron - the nomad sould'' is very close to the idea.
now could you please give me an advice which game engine can be used in order to get highest results? professional oppinions only please...
I''d suggest the tribes 2 engine, it''ll cost you though
www.garagegames.com
its $100

have you had a look at the new Codecreatures Enginge? Actually I think it´s a whole dev system with integrated editors and everything, and it looks like it can handle extrememly high polycounts.
I´m not sure about the URL, but the company name is Codecreatures which is a subsidiary of Phenomedia.
other than that there´s always the possibility of Q3/Lith, among others.

well $100 is a kind of a joke having in mind that lithtech costs from $75k to $250k ;-)
the gfx look damn good as well... i never played tribes but it seems i''ll get my hands on it asap...
thanks
You must understand that if you produce a game using the engine and make a profit you have to pay royalty. But for such an amazing engine it''s a small price. Garagegames will even help you distribute your game.

maximus: i can''t say it was the best game cause it lacked many features and actually they didn''t mix the three game types perfectly. however the game was good and i really enjoyed it.
It may not have mixed them the best, but it had a wide range of different areas in the game, VERY fast loading times (only barely noticable), a well populated world, nice lip-sync on talking NPCs, some confusing puzzles, a wide range of bodies you could possess, nice large game world, both indoor and outdoor areas, different ways to complete some tasks, good gfx, interesting mini-quests, etc.
And to top it all off, it had David Bowie!
