Hi, new guy here!

I'm looking for good PC games. Most games now seem to be console ports, many of them require googling or trial and error to be playable on PC. Some are not wort the effort. For instance, I gave up on Sniper Elite. My PC is a 2013 semi-gaming laptop (Acer V3-571G with a GeForce GT 630m).

I love FPS's, both single- and multiplayer.

What have you got for me?

Are you interested in just FPS? I would recommend Arma 3, it is very far from being a console port. It's probably one of my all time favourites, it's the game with the highest playtime that I have on Steam. It has become a lot more user friendly of late too which is great. It is either a love or hate game though and you certainly do a lot more running than shooting which doesn't appeal to everyone. There is something to be said about taking 5-10 minutes to get somewhere and then the feeling you get knowing you can be killed so fast and have to make that long trip again, keeps you on edge which many games don't do. A bit like DayZ in that respect where hearing a gun shot can really get your heart rate going because you know you have a lot to lose.

In multiplayer it is alleviated a bit because of revive systems and so on, people do risk life and limb to come and save you which is great. Content wise there is masses and modding is well supported.

If you're unsure though they do free weekends so it's worth trying out then. I will say though it can require a meaty bit of hardware to get good frame rate.

Call of duty 4/ modern warfare 1, farcry 3 (with quite some RPG elementen but very fun if you ask me), battlefield 3

With that hardware, any modern game, console port or not, that is slightly more demanding will work on lowest settings, max.

How about older games? They might fit your PC better. Also, there is now a ton of Indie games that have modest hardware requirements. Your GT630M might be enough for them.

If we are NOT talking about FPSes (1. I am not big into FPSes, 2. most FPSes that are not quite old are gonna trash your Graphics card unless you drop settings into the ugly zone):

- Fez, Minecraft, Ori: good, Indie or Indie-like games that started life on PC, have modest Hardware requirments and provide tons of fun.

- World of Tanks, World of Warships: Vehicular Arcade Shooters that look not too shabby, and are optimized for russian toasters. Your low powered laptop would be quite middle of the pack in russia, these games with lowered settings and expectations (like 30Hz instead of 60Hz) might run just fine on your machine.

Try FEAR (first encounter assault recon) and Splinter Cell. Loved FEAR because of the well done FPS horror element (unique). Loved Splinter Cell because it is more or less a puzzle shooter...shooters that require thought are rare...the higher the body count you generate the more you make it hard on yourself to complete the mission. You are rewarded for being stealthy and getting the job done.

Mount & Blade: Warband is good if you can look past the rough edges. Works well with steam controller (gyro sword) and I would also suggest steam controller for some older fps titles as I find its more immersive e.g. quake 2, its too easy with mouse.

Grimrock 1 & 2 if you like the pre 3d era.

I've really been enjoying games like Guild Wars 2 and Mechwarrior Online, but my favorite genre is single-player RPG, thanks to Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim, and Bethesda Softworks in general.
