Hey everyone, I have always had trouble with my internet not fully loading web pages, and not loading flash stuff etc. I uninstalled and reinstalled flash and all that, and I have the latest IE, so I don''t think it''s that. My internet is running 2.5 mbps down, and 122 kbps up, so I don''t think it''s that. The only thing I can think of is because I''m on a 100 ft cat5. Do you think this is why I''m loosing data? Just wondering. _BUSTER_ www.dotspot.cjb.net ______________________________ Check out my for sale domain name! http://www.theatermonkey.com

What pik said.

There shouldn''t be any problems with category 5 cable, even at that length. In fact it''s realy good that you indeed have that cable.

Other possibilities:

Line Noise:

Noise on the line your connected to can produce slow connections, and data loss.

Other Devices Conneected To Same Line:

If other devices are connected to the same line, ex. answering machines. This could have an effect on the line quality. Also if you don''t have a direct connection to the line, ex. plugged into an intermediate device. This could also have an effect.

Even though category 5 cable is very well shielded, it''s best to make sure it is not run near other wiring, especially power lines in the house. Noise could be picked from the other wiring.

It''s also best, if you can to have a direct connection to the line coming into the house.

Heh funny Pik. . .
Yeah anyway. I''m on Cable internet. I have three other computers hooked to the same router, and they all work like a dream (a little slower however). I think my cat5 isn''t shielded ( we got the cheap stuff =) ) Hmmm. . . lets see. . . it IS running next to a power cord. . . Some guy (back in the day) said that when you get longer than 50 (or was it 75) feet of cable you loose speed (and data?). Well maybe I''ll try some stuff with near by cables. . .

Correct me if I''m wrong but I believe category 5 cable
is self shielding. I haven''t seen category 5 cable with
an external shield covering.

This shielding I believe is accomplished by the wires being
rotated 1/4 turn every so often, I think that was 2" but I
don''t remember offhand.

So there''s still wire length, power line noise, and maybe the
three computers on the same router might have something to do with it as well. You may have to do a little experimentation.

100 ft shouldn''t be the problem. That''s how much I have to connect my 2 computers, and it works fine. Length only becomes a problem if you''re talking thousands of feet, I believe.

Thanks for the response guys,
Well on the cat5 package it said unshielded. . . I don''t think that the computer being on a router with 2 other computers is the problem because all their data loads well. It is running along next to the surge protector cord and a phone line, and behind my desk next to various other cables. Do you think I should try a NEW cable? There are no other options for cord placement. Here is a picture of some of the misloading of internet stuff Messed up. Notice that the page is scrolled all the way down to the bottom and yet the page SHOULD continue, yet it stops for no particular reason. This is just an example. Many other thigs like this happen like sometimes it''ll show a part of the html at the bottom of the page.

Thanks again

i believe 100ft is the maximum length (unless it''s 100 meters, forgot). and yes, it''s self-shielding by those twists but it doesn''t shield against outside stuff. so don''t run it along power cords and stuff like that (phone lines should be ok)
life is unfair, take advantage of it.UNMB2 - if the link doesn't work, try clicking it :)
